This post is really spontaneous, but it’s covering things that I’ve been thinking about since I started blogging.
Some of you may know, I started this blog more as a personal ‘book log’. I’ve been keeping a list of books I read each year since 2011. I was looking at the list and realized that I forgot that I read some books... does that sound weird?
Anyway, I noticed that and told myself that I wanted to take more time to read an enjoy books. It’s not about how many books I read in a year anymore, but more something like this, which I saw in one of my classes:
“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.” ~ Mortimer Adler
And, for me, the best way to do that was to take more time to read less books, and to write about them.
So I opened a blogger page, and came up with a super duper extra creative name! (...ha...) At first, I didn’t know there were so many people who were also reviewing books out there. I thought that other authors mostly did that (the authors quoted on the covers of some books? Yeah them).
Basically, a whole world of books and writing opened up to me.
Now, I’m not a writer. I mean sure, I like it, I came up with a few cute stories throughout upper school that I wish I could elaborate on, I like writing reviews. And I might be good at it? I don’t even know!
I’m. A. Science. Student! I study chemistry and sustainability, with some biology.
So yeah writing’s not my strongest point!
Where was I... Oh yeah!
I started my blog, and I just thought it was the coolest thing! And I still think that!
I freaked out with my first comment. I was in the inner city bookstore, checking my e-mails in front of the YA book section, saw the email saying that someone commented. And then I kinda went crazy. I mean I probably got red, and I remember getting shaky and excited and all sorts of weird. And this was that comment:
"I just wanted to say I like your blog! I'm going to follow you, please follow me back as well www.sweetcherry69.blogspot.com I also have a book blog :)”
(BTW guys Carrie, the one who posted this, has a really great blog, go check it out, will ya? :) )
And the next comment was about me getting nominated for the Liebster Award.
I must admit, when I saw something with such a fancy name, I freaked out EVEN MORE. I thought I was gonna get a certificate or a prize, and there would be confetti, and, again, all sorts of crazy things.
That’s when I kinda dove deeper into the blogging world. I looked up the super-mythical “Liebster Award” and found out that it was more of a tag! I filled it out happily, discovering other blogs in the process.
I started developing my reviews. It went from short little paragraphs to more elaborate pieces (especially about characters, you guys know how much I love the characters!), to having a new rating system, to something much more structured.
I found the world of booktubing, tags, read-alongs, book memes... I didn’t know any of that existed before I started blogging! (Well that’s not totally true for booktubing. In case you are curious, 3 of my favorite booktubers are Jessethereader, Abookutopia, and Peruseproject.)
I also discovered so many books. I mean SO. MANY. Thanks for introducing me to things like Throne of Glass, Across the Universe, a bunch of stand-alone books, contemporary books, Miss Peregrine, and so many other fabulous books out there that I add to my wish list all the time!
Now, blogging is one of my hobbies. I love Top Ten Tuesdays, I love finishing a book and having a whole list in my mind about what to write about, i love talking bookish with you guys!
And you guys are a huge part of this. This is still a tiny fleck of a blog in the whole world of them, but, for me, that is perfect :) I can’t thank you guys enough!
Well... I guess that one thing that’s more difficult is actually putting feels into words, especially when the book gives you so many feels that even your feels don’t understand your feels. You know what I mean? Like... a Feelsplosion.
Wow... surprisingly accurate!
Anyway, I hope you guys have an absolutely fabulous day, month, and year! May you find the next Harry Potter for you, may all your ships sail, and may the tides take you where they should :)
