Percy Jackson Read-Along - Review 2 - The Sea of Monsters

Guys this is so weird last week’s review was deleted for some reason O-O oh well here it is again! Two reviews in one day! (I just copied and pasted it again from goodreads, :’) )

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Read-Along - Book Review - The Sea of Monsters
Hey Halfbloods!

So, as a part of our PJO read-alongErika and I have completed the reading of The Sea of Monsters, and will now review it :)

Goodread’s Blurb:
"The heroic son of Poseidon makes an action-packed comeback in the second must-read installment of Rick Riordan's amazing young readers series. Starring Percy Jackson, a "half blood" whose mother is human and whose father is the God of the Sea, Riordan's series combines cliffhanger adventure and Greek mythology lessons that results in true page-turners that get better with each installment. In this episode, The Sea of Monsters, Percy sets out to retrieve the Golden Fleece before his summer camp is destroyed, surpassing the first book's drama and setting the stage for more thrills to come."

And now for a short and sweet review (because I don’t have so much time today, I’m sorry!)!

This is another awesome installment from this series! I’m so so glad it didn’t have to suffer through the ‘second book syndrome’!

In this book, we get new insights and more character development from EVERY character! There’s also so much more greek mythology presented, which I hugely enjoyed!
We meet a new character, Tyson, a young cyclops whois also a son of Poseidon. It takes him a while, but he finds a good place amongst the characters.

Luke becomes worse - he tries getting people to join his cause to raise Kronos, and slowly succeeds. We really see the bad side of him through this book.

Annabeth stays secretive, but still reveals little pieces about her and her past at a time. You really get to see how complex of a character she is, and how her past shaped her. In this book, she’s my favorite character.

Percy discovers more ability! Underwater telepathy (which is actually really useful, if I may say so), ship control, and a few more water control tricks. What’s great is that you can tell that he grew up in a year - he’s (a tiny bit) more mature and isn’t as snappy.

As said, I really loved the greek myths presented! It was like following a modern Odysseus through his travels, which was awesome! You really learn a lot through these books!

This book has a beautiful focus on family - the relations between each of the halfbloods and their parents. We see that Clarisse is scared of her father, that Annabeth wishes she could have a normal family, that Luke is angry at his father, and that Percy just really wishes he could figure his family out. We even get information about Chiron’s family!

We also get to learn a bit more about the prophecy that Percy may or may not be the center of. It’s definitely scary to know that you have a prophecy that could be about you, especially if you have no idea what that prophecy is!

This was such a great book! Of COURSE I’m giving it 5/5 feathers!

What did you think of the Titan’s Curse? Let me know in the comments! :)
